US Development Metrics

I assessed demographic and economic indicators in a previous blog post, but I wanted to further explore the content in Gapminder.  Figure 1 below tracks changes in CO2 emissions per person and income per capita from 1800 to 2012.  Emissions appear to be a reasonable proxy for industrialization.  I learned that the carbon data originally come from the Carbon Dioxide Information Analysis Center (CDIAC) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
